Write a 2 – 4 page paper that responds to the following scenario: You work for a local judge who has made you aware of her curiosity regarding gang violence. The judge presides over different types of criminal cases but has noticed that in the past few months, there seems to be a surge in her courtroom related to cases involving gang violence. The judge recently found out that you graduated from KaplanÂ’s Criminal Justice Program with a masterÂ’s degree. Therefore, she finds you to be well qualified to provide some direction concerning the gang literature. She has asked that you review Chapter 8 from Voices from the Field, pages 160 – 181, and would like you to do the following: • Describe the basic premise of the study. • Identify the concepts studied in the article. • Define the primary research question(s) and evaluate whether the research questions were appropriate. • Let her know if you feel this research is valid and explain the reasons as to why you reached this particular conclusion. • Your discussion should include a review of the various types of validity including: content, construct, face validity, and criterion-related validity. The various types of validity should be applied to the assessment of the article. • Were the conceptual and operational definitions effective measures of the concepts? • Is the research study reliable? • The discussion should include a general overview of three types of reliability, and whether the study design produced consistent measures of gang violence. All of this information has to be presented to the judge in a memorandum which will be doubled-spaced, 12 inch font, and 2 – 4 pages in length.
