The purpose of police agencies in the criminal justice system is to react to crime in the jurisdictions criminals’ effect. Police agencies roles and functions are to enforce laws, arrest offenders, prevent crime, preserve the peace, and provide service. Police agencies strategies in accomplishing its roles and functions are to establish preventive patrol, routine incident response, emergency response, criminal investigations, problem solving, and support services. In addition, the criminal justice system works on three levels which are, local, state, and federal. Police agencies roles and functions are to enforce laws, arrest offenders, prevent crime, preserve the peace, and provide service. Enforcing the laws can be achieved effectively by ensuring that all law enforcement officers know and understand the laws. Arresting offenders is achieved by identifying suspects that are breaking the law and arresting them in the safest way possible. Preventing crime is achieved by reviewing statistics and preparing for crime such as D.U.I. checkpoints during the holidays when statistics show that there are an increased number of drunk drivers. Preserving the peace is accomplished simply by having an officer presence and stopping any unwanted behavior. Providing service is accomplished by law enforcement officers assisting the community with auto breakdowns, and medical emergencies.
