The case Brown v. Board of Education

Segregation was a big problem back then, where blacks and whites were unable to attend the same school. Brown v. Board of Education had paved the way for blacks to be able to attend the same school that whites attended. The segregation of children in public school violated the Equal Protection Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment, this has helped to pave the way for racial equality for all students. A recent event that occur was at University of Missouri black student’s protest against racial slurs that was made against them. The resignation of the university president came quickly since he never did anything about stop racism within the university.

Brown vs. Board of Education was a major milestone in Education and in history where the Supreme Court ruled that segregation in public education was a violation of the Fourteenth Amendment, and that the segregation of African-Americans is depriving them of equal protection. This case helped to change the way education is today, by making the public schools more of a multiracial platform that facilitates all people regardless of race, color, or creed. This “fairness” of educational opportunities has allowed our society to see that the diversity in race and color only makes education and further placement into colleges and the job force ore competitive. This has and will for sure be in controversy as to the pros and cons, but overall it is definitely helped public education to provide a level “playing field” for all races. Discussion 3

The case Brown v. Board of Education changed public education in that it made segregation illegal, and denied schools from refusing children of color admittance (United States Courts). However, there are still pockets of segregation still occurring, which is shocking. In 2014, there were around 200 desegregation cases, according to the Civil Rights Division (U.S. Department of Justice). Unfortunately “realized” has not yet come to be, but people are working hard every day to fight for the rights of the oppressed. For example, in 2015, a desegregation case against Wayne County School District, in Mississippi, was finally dismissed, after they were found to have been completely compliant with the terms for several years (Civil Rights Division). My position is that it has not been 100 percent realized, but I am still confident and hopeful in the progress that has been made. I believe we will see it come to fruition in our lifetime
